I have now become almost a pro at going to school and giving out these activities & hand on learning from Teach For Green. But still every time when I go to school, I prepare about how and what I am going to teach them. Just reading out the content is not enough. I have to learn my content in such a way that I make others understand it clearly.

This class was little different from the previous ones as students had given me feedback the last time. They asked me if I liked their feedback. I told them how motivating they were & how I wish to keep them with me forever. There was a big smile on their faces hearing this. They were happy that I appreciated and took their feedback in a positive way.

Today my target was to teach them about water cycle, food cycle & transfer of energy. I started the class with a discussion on the homework; yes I give them homework, on solar system. And I was surprised to know that almost all of them did the homework. It was not a written homework and students usually don’t take these readings work seriously but these girls did it. Not only this, they asked me doubt about various other concepts like black hole, shooting star, big bang theory etc. And I was realizing how curious these kids are.

We discussed these and then I continued further with my planned schedule. Since I knew that they had studied about water cycle & food cycle in their syllabus, I divided them into groups of three to four girls and told them to discuss and explain the class about the respective topics. This created a little indiscipline in the class but that was worth it. I think these kinds of activities improve the public speaking skill of students and gradually their fear and hesitation reduces. So in this way, they revised and learned the concepts their own. After the class, few girls came to me and said . .

“Ma’am we are really happy that you came there and taught us. We think that you have worked on your faults which were on the feedback and we really enjoy your class. Come again”

I was pleased to hear that. I must say that those girls are very good observer. I wish to go there again and share my knowledge with them.
